National Trail Raceway

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Terry McGee over this past weekend.  Terry was a legend here at National Trail Raceway and drag racing in general.  Terry started racing back in 1969 and continued every single year, finishing 3rd in the points last season here at Trails.

Terry racked up countless track championships here at National Trail Raceway and Pacemakers over the years.  He also won a Division 3 Championship and made the trip to Pomona competing for a World Championship. Terry is also the only racer in NHRA History to make every single ET Finals no matter what division as he kept that streak alive in 2024 competing for Team Trails.

Racers young and old have competed against Terry over the years and he was not just a fellow competitor but also a friend and mentor to so many of those racers.  Terry has made more passes down this racetrack than anyone else ever, he could roll into the gate late, miss a time trial and still park it in the Winner’s Circle at the end of the day.

Terry will be greatly missed by racers and staff and like most racers have said it won’t be the same without him.  Please keep Terry’s wife, Deanna and their kids in your thoughts and prayers.

We will be renaming the ET Racer of the Year Award to the Terry McGee Racer of the Racer Award going forward as we look to honor the legend and memory of Terry McGee.

Godspeed Terry.

The Celebration of Life for Terry McGee will be on Sunday, March 2nd at 3 pm at the Seventh-day Adventist Church at

701 Linnville Rd. Newark, Oh 43056.

Please share with anyone that would like to attend.

Dress code: Terry wanted everyone to wear their favorite racing shirt!!!
