National Trail Raceway

This year the JEGS ET Series Sportsman class featured a first-time track champion.  The Sportsman class features racers from as young as 16 to racers in their late 70’s as it really is one of the most diverse classes at National Trail Raceway.  When the dust settled at the end of the season, it was Dustin Goodin and his 1979 Dodge Aspen holding the championship trophy.

For Dustin the season started very slow, as he struggled with some first round losses, and he missed a couple of races leaving him 11th in points going into the July 23rd race.  At that point in the season, Dustin was only worried about making the ET Finals Team. But it was that race on July 23rd that turned his season around when he parked his car in the Winner’s Circle.  At the very next race on July 29th, it was the highpoint of the season for him, Dustin was able to get his second win of the year but what made it even more special was that he shared the Winner’s Circle with his nephew Riley Goodin, who won in Jrs earlier that day.  Goodin’s daughters, wife and niece from South Carolina were also there to celebrate the win with him.  For the rest of the season, Dustin picked up round wins consistently putting him in prime position to win the 2023 JEGS ET Series Sportsman Championship.

“First off, I must thank my Wife Mariah, my daughters Remi and Aubree for all their love and support.  I also want to say thank you to my nephew Riley for being part of my crew.  This being my first track championship makes it that much sweeter as I have been racing with my dad Larry since I was young and to finally win a track championship means so much to me,” said a smiling Goodin. “My sponsors, Goodin Auto Repair and Performance and 1320 Detailing Supplies, helped out a lot by supporting my racing passion this season.”

Next year Dustin plans on defending his championship and trying to turn on as many win lights as possible.

Congrats to Dustin Goodin the 2023 JEGS ET Series Sportsman Champion!
