National Trail Raceway

The 2023 JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Racing Series Jr. Lightning class is always one of the most competitive classes that races at National Trail Raceway.  This year was no different, with so many of the racers competing in their final season of Jr. Dragsters, it came down to the final event of the season for the Championship to be decided.  After the last points were tallied it was Zane Sheets putting his name on the championship trophy!

The season started off well for Zane and his team, he went to 3 final rounds in the first 4 races picking up 2 wins.  He knew that starting the season strong didn’t mean a championship was guaranteed.  Zane knew from his experiences in Track and Soccer that you must finish strong as well and keep striving it.  That is exactly what Zane did the rest of the season, going rounds at each and every race, racking up points and trying to make sure that he stayed at the top or close to the top so that when the final JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Series events came around he would be in position to win the championship.  At the final event of the year, Zane lost in the quarterfinals and had to watch as Kendylle Brown moved on to the semi-finals with a chance at the title, but she had to win the race.

Zane and his Dad (Steve), Mom (Joy) and Sister (Olivia) watched as the semi-finals rolled up.  It was Kendylle vs Chase Cooper, and Kendylle kicked it red meaning her chances of the championship were over.  That was the moment Zane Sheets became the 2023 JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Series Jr. Lightning Track Champion!

“This year has been a great year for me winning races and going rounds and being in a championship hunt the whole season has really been fun.  This being my final year in Jrs and being able to cap it off with a championship is very important to me as I take the next steps in my racing career and move up to Super Pro,” said a very happy Zane. “I want to thank my parents Steve and Joy Sheets for their support, without them this championship wouldn’t be possible.  I also want to thank my sister Olivia for always being there for me.”

Next year Zane plans on making the jump to Super Pro and trying his hand at running the family’s dragster in the JEGS ET Series.

Congrats to Zane Sheets the 2023 JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Series Jr. Lightning Track Champion!
