The Jr. Lightning class is the most advanced class in the JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Racing Series.  The class is full of the the most experienced racers in the series and is full of exciting racing. On the final day of the season, it was Ian Burt taking home the 2022 JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Series Jr. Lightning Championship, his first ever track championship.

The key to winning a championship isn’t always winning lots of races, it is about going rounds consistently and getting out of first round.  This year Ian Burt did just that, after missing the first points weekend, Burt started to slowly accumulate points in the hunt for the championship with some 2nd and 3rd round finishes and a runner-up in May and June.  But it wasn’t until July when Burt really got hot and he put together 3 runner-ups in a row to take over the points lead.  After that Burt never looked back, he picked up a semi-final finish on August 20th to help extend his points lead over Bazell going into the final points race.  On the final day of racing in the JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Racing Series, Burt was able to win 1st round and made it back to the starting line area to watch Blaine bow out in round 1, which then secured that the 2022 championship trophy would have Ian Burt’s name on it.

“This championship means so much to me, when I started racing, I just wanted to have fun, and then in 2021 I was winning races and putting together a championship and then lost the points lead and never got it back.  I never thought I would have another chance at a championship but this year we did it with consistency.  I have watched my dad and uncle win championships and now I have one to go with theirs,” said a very happy Ian Burt. “I want to thank my crew and family, Dad (Roger), Mom (Meleana) and Cousin (Jeremy), without their love and support I wouldn’t be here. I also want to thank my sponsors Craws Racing.”

Next year Ian plans on defending his championship in the Jr. Lightning class and plans on running the Motorcycle class as well in the JEGS ET Series.  Ian is also looking forward to getting into big cars and plans on getting a dragster soon.

Congrats to Ian Burt the 2022 JEGS.com Jr. Dragster Series Jr. Lightning Champion!
