One of the best things about drag racing is that it is a sport that anyone can get involved with and can race almost any type of vehicle. This is especially the case with bracket racing, a person can race anything from a professionally built race car to their daily driver at National Trail Raceway.
That was especially the case for Michael Stephens, the 2019 JEGS Wednesday Night Series Sport Compact Champion. He competed in his daily driver a 2017 Honda Accord, that was still under warranty. Michael though was not new to drag racing, but it had been over 10 years since he had last competed, and he took the Sport Compact class by storm.
During the season, Michael took his Accord to 4 final rounds and was able to come away with back to back wins in July. He also made it to the semi-finals twice to help him clinch his first ever National Trail Raceway Championship.
“This season has been great. It felt really good to be racing again and then to clinch my first track championship it put the cherry on top of the season,” said Michael. “This championship wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my family and crew of Alyssa Stephens.”
Next year Stephens plans on racing in the JEGS ET Series and fight for a place on National Trail Raceway’s ET Finals Team.
Congrats to Michael Stephens the 2019 JEGS Wednesday Night Series Sport Compact Champion.
