Shawn Pitts is a name that is synonymous with National Trail Raceway and winning. Pitts has won multiple track championships at National Trail Raceway in all types of classes. He is considered one of the toughest racers around and he is doing it at the ripe young age of 24. This year was no different in the JEGS Wednesday Night Summer Series. Shawn took home a win, a runner-up and two semi-final finishes as he won the Big Dawg Championship for the second year in a row.
The season started for Shawn in March, down in South Carolina and ended in October in Indianapolis. Pitts raced in Sportsman, Pro, Super Pro, Super Street, Big Dawg, Street, Box/No Box, Footbrake and Big Money bracket races throughout the 2018 season. After 620 passes down a drag strip, he finally called it a year.
This year wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of Steve and Becky Pitts and Shelby Trainer. As for sponsors, Shawn is still looking for some as he says his Dad’s wallet is running dry.
“I had some very high points this season, winning back to back Big Dawg Championships was one of them. And taking 3 cars in 3 different classes to the D3 ET Finals. Dan Funk really helped me out with that and I want to thank him. Being only a few thousandths from going to Pomona was tough but it keeps me striving to be better,” said Pitts.
Next season Pitts plans on racing again at National Trail Raceway but also some Big Money Bracket Races. He plans on getting on the ET Finals team and trying to win that trip to California.
